Good NYC Bar for live music - acoustic or cover band? - nyc,bar

We're headed to New York for a bachelor party and was looking for a basic bar. A place in the group was a joke.

We are in the area of Madison Square Garden, but they can always switch to another region where there are bars with bands.

Suggestions would be helpful. At the moment I'm happy about Google Maps - this is not so reliable.
